The High School Drama Group presents two productions
a year independent of The Prairie Players season. These
productions are directed by The Players' artistic director,
Lee Pittman. The program includes a one act play, which
is taken to competition at the end of January, and a two
or three act play. Over the past two seasons, we have
witnessed talented students bask in the process of
self discovery, while gaining confidence, poise, and
a strong sense of identity and pride. The inherent
disciplines of the theatre are many -- art, music,
technical, managing, directing, design, and
of course, acting. Many discover that their own
particular interests and abilities are integral to the
collaborative creative process of theatre, therefore
opening new windows of possibilities. Several graduating
students have chosen to include theatre studies in their
college curriculum. Others have selected theatre as a major,
receiving substantial scholarships. With each new production,
more students are attracted to the program and the theatre's
various areas of application. The Prairie Players encourage
students to participate in their season productions, offering
invaluable experience toward collegiate involvement, and
perhaps eventual professional theatrical careers.
Neil Simon's two act play, FOOLS, was presented
for three performances in November of 2000.
