The Players’ fifth season included one of
Broadway’s greatest successes - Allan J. Lerner
and Frederick Lowe’s masterwork,  My Fair Lady.
The musical retelling of George Benard Shaw‘s Pygmalion
opened on Broadway at New York’s Mark Hellenger Theatre
in 1956 playing 2,717 performances in its initial run, winning
numerous Tony Awards The musical introduced nineteen
year old Julie Andrews  to the world in the role of Eliza
Doolittle, and starred Rex Harrison in his superb portrayal
of Henry Higgins.   The elegant Players’ production
played to full houses throughout its run, making
it one of our most artistic and financial
successes to that date.
