MEREDITH WILLSON'S

August 2002
Attracting the largest cast to that date,
The Prairie Players fourteenth production was presented as a tribute to all music educators. Meredith Willson’s highly acclaimed work, perhaps America’s favorite musical - and perhaps one of the most often
performed theater pieces in the nation - also proved to be one of
our most popular. The musical opened in 1957 to rave reviews, playing
for 1375 performances during its initial run on Broadway, and won eight Tony Awards, including best musical and best musical score. The original cast album won the very first Grammy Award. The show instantly became a favorite of theatre audiences around the world. A Tony Award-winning
revival of The Music Man played on Broadway for over a year in the 2000-2001 season, Willson’s The Music Man continues to
wave its flag proudly, as did our rousing production.
