February - March 2002

The story was first written as a
novel by Edward Streeter published in 1945,
then adapted as a play by Caroline Francke in 1951.
That same year the film was released. The film, featuring
Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, and Elizabeth Talyor, rode the wave
of publicity generated  by the wildly publicized showbiz news of the
year - 18 year-old Taylor’s approaching marriage to Nicky Hilton of hotel
chain fame. The film was such a success that the MGM studio rushed sequel
into production and released it the following year with the same cast, titled
Father’s Little DividendThe popular source material was again filmed in
1991, featuring Diane Keaton as the mother, and Steve Martin as the father.
Our production was charming, and worth noting, featured newlyweds,
Mike and Melissa Terwey as the young couple.  Ah, Romance!

In keeping with the bridal theme, The Prairie Players
presented a lunch and fashion event prior to the Sunday matinee,
featuring wedding attire worn by local brides, bridesmaids, and grooms
over the past eighty years.  In some cases the dresses were worn by
decemdant family members.   One eighty year-old dress was
worn by the great-grand daughter of the bride.
